Pest control SEO, built around Google Maps and AI search

Pest control SEO, the way we run it, is the work that helps a pest control company come up when someone nearby searches Google, Google Maps or an AI tool. Ours is local SEO: we optimize your Google Business Profile and keep it active, run a local visibility program, send a review request after every job, post to six platforms, and work on and track how you show up in AI search. You get a Day 1 snapshot, a progress report every two weeks and a monthly ranking heatmap.

How Google ranks local results on Google Maps

On its help page Tips to improve your local ranking on Google, Google says “Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity.” The same help page explains three factors under the headings Relevance, Distance and Prominence. Here is what each one means and what we do about it.

Google’s Relevance, Distance and Prominence sections, and what we do for each
Google’s headingWhat Google saysWhat we do
RelevanceHow well your Business Profile matches what someone is searching for. Google says complete and detailed business info helps it match you to relevant searches.Your categories, services, description and attributes, audited and then kept optimized.
DistanceHow far your business is from the customer who is searching.Nobody can change how far you are from the person searching. Your monthly report shows where you rank across your area.
ProminenceHow well-known your business is. Google says this is also based on info like how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. Our part is reviews: a review request after every completed job, and replies to your new reviews.

Google reviews for pest control companies

On its help page Tips to improve your local ranking on Google, Google says “More reviews and positive ratings can help your business’s local ranking.”

We start with a review campaign to your past customers. Then every completed job triggers a text and an email asking for a Google review, with a direct link, and we reply to your new Google reviews.

Google does not allow incentives such as payment, discounts or free services in exchange for a review, and it does not allow asking only for positive ones. Our requests go out after every completed job. More on this in how to get more Google reviews and review management for contractors.

Google Business Profile rules for service-area businesses

If your technicians go to your customers and customers don’t come to your office, Google calls you a service-area business. These are Google’s own rules, quoted so you can check your profile against them.

  • Showing an address customers never visit. Google says a service-area business should hide its business address from customers. If you don’t serve customers at your business address, Google says to remove it from your profile. Then set the service areas you cover.
  • A service area set as a radius. Google says you can’t set your service area as a radius around your business. You can set up to 20 service areas by city, postal code or other area. Google says the boundaries of your overall service area shouldn’t extend farther than about 2 hours of driving time from where your business is based, and that for some businesses, larger service areas may be appropriate.
  • More than one profile for the same business. Google says there should only be one profile per business. A service-area business should have one profile for its central office or location, with a designated service area. The exception: if you have different locations with separate service areas and separate staff at each one, Google allows one profile for each location.
  • A virtual office as your address. Google says service-area businesses can’t list a virtual office unless it is staffed during business hours.
  • Extra words in your business name. Google says your name should reflect your business’s real-world name, as used consistently on your storefront, website, stationery, and as known to customers. Including unnecessary information in your business name isn’t permitted and could result in the suspension of your Business Profile.
  • Categories used as keywords. Google says not to use categories solely as keywords. It says to use as few categories as possible to describe your overall core business, as specific as possible but representative of your main business, and to pick categories that complete the statement “This business IS a” rather than “this business HAS a.”
  • Prices, sales or links in your description. Google says the business description shouldn’t focus on special promotions, prices or offer sales, and no links of any type are allowed in it.
