Google Business Profile management for contractors

Google Business Profile management is the monthly work of keeping your Google listing complete and active: the right categories and services, fresh posts, photos and videos, a review request after every job with replies to new reviews, and reports that show where you rank on Google Maps. We do all of it for home service contractors, every month.

Rated 4.9 on Google 336 reviews
  • No long-term contract.
  • Cancel any time.
  • Your Google profile and every review stay yours.

Key takeaways

  • Do nothing, and your Google profile stays the way it was the day it was set up, not optimized to show up.
  • Google says “Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity.”
  • Google’s own tips: verify your business, keep your information complete and accurate, reply to reviews, and add photos and videos. Google also says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking.
  • If customers don’t come to your address, Google says to remove it from your profile and set a service area instead.
  • Google does not allow businesses to offer incentives for reviews, or to ask only for positive ones. Google allows asking for reviews of genuine experiences, without incentives and without trying to influence the rating or what the review says.
  • We do this work every month for home service contractors. Your part: about 5 to 10 minutes to set up.
What’s included

What monthly Google Business Profile management includes

This is the work, item by item.

01

Audit, then optimize

We audit your Google Business Profile and fix what’s missing or weak: categories, services, description and attributes. Then we keep it optimized.

02

Posts, photos and videos on six platforms

We publish posts, offers, updates, photos and videos on your profile on an ongoing schedule. Every update goes out on all 6: your Google Business Profile, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn. The content includes edited videos with voiceover and captions.

03

New reviews after every job

We start with a review campaign to your past customers. Then every completed job triggers a text and an email asking for a Google review, with a direct link. We reply to your new Google reviews.

04

Local visibility program

Our local visibility program increases real engagement with your listing, working to get it showing up higher.

05

AI search, worked on and tracked

We work to get you showing up in AI search results, and we track how you show up in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Grok and Perplexity.

06

Reports you can read

A Day 1 snapshot of where you rank on Google Maps, a progress report every two weeks and a monthly ranking heatmap.

How Google decides

What Google ranks local businesses on, and what we do

Google publishes the basics: “Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity.” The same page has sections headed Relevance, Distance and Prominence, summarized below. Google also says: “There’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.” Our work is on the parts of your profile Google points to: complete business info, reviews and replies, and photos and videos.

DistanceHow far your business is from the customer who is searching.Your monthly report includes a ranking heatmap.
ProminenceHow well-known your business is. Google’s rules

Google Business Profile rules every contractor should know

These come from Google’s own guidelines and policies, linked below.

  • Unnecessary information in your business name. Google says your name should reflect your business’s real-world name, as used consistently on your storefront, website, stationery, and as known to customers. Google says including unnecessary information in your business name isn’t permitted and could result in the suspension of your Business Profile.
  • Showing an address customers never visit. Google says a service-area business should hide its business address from customers. Its own example: a plumber who runs the business from a residential address should clear the address from the profile. Then set the service areas you cover.
  • A service area set as a radius. Google says you can’t set your service area as a radius around your business. You can set up to 20 service areas by city, postal code or other area. Google says the boundaries of your overall service area shouldn’t extend farther than about 2 hours of driving time from where your business is based, and that for some businesses, larger service areas may be appropriate.
  • More than one profile for the same business. Google says there should only be one profile per business. A service-area business should have one profile for its central office or location, with a designated service area. The exception: if you have different locations with separate service areas and separate staff at each one, Google allows one profile for each location.
  • A virtual office as your address. Google says service-area businesses can’t list a virtual office unless it is staffed during business hours.
  • Categories used as keywords. Google says not to use categories solely as keywords. It says to use as few categories as possible to describe your overall core business, as specific as possible but representative of your main business, and to pick categories that complete the statement “This business IS a” rather than “this business HAS a.”
  • Prices, sales or links in your description. Google says the business description shouldn’t focus on special promotions, prices or offer sales, and no links of any type are allowed in it.
  • Paying or discounting for reviews. Google does not allow incentives such as payment, discounts or free services in exchange for a review.
  • Asking only your happy customers. Google does not allow businesses to discourage negative reviews or ask only for positive ones. Our review requests go out after every completed job.
