Landscaping SEO and marketing, done for you

Landscaping SEO, the way we run it, is the work that helps a landscaping company come up when someone searches Google, Google Maps or an AI tool for a landscaper. Ours is local SEO: we optimize and run your Google Business Profile, run a local visibility program, send a review request after every job, post to six platforms, and work on and track how you show up in AI search. You get a Day 1 snapshot, a progress report every two weeks and a monthly ranking heatmap.

  • No long-term contract.
  • Cancel any time.
  • Your Google profile and every review stay yours.

Key takeaways

  • Our landscaping SEO and marketing is local SEO: your Google Business Profile, a local visibility program, your Google reviews, posts on six platforms, AI search and reports.
  • On its help page Tips to improve your local ranking on Google, Google says “Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity.”
  • For photos at work, Google suggests adding at least three photos that are representative of the services you offer.
  • If your business has seasonal hours, Google says to set your regular hours while you’re open and lets you mark your business as temporarily closed in the off-season.
  • Google does not allow businesses to offer incentives for reviews, or to selectively ask customers for positive ones.
  • No one can force an AI tool to recommend a business, no matter who says they can. We work to get you showing up in AI search results, and we track how you show up.
  • Your part: about 5 to 10 minutes to set up.

What a landscaping marketing agency does, and the part we run

A landscaping marketing agency helps landscaping companies get found by more local customers and turn more searches into booked jobs.

Whether you call it landscaping marketing, landscaping SEO or landscaping digital marketing, the part we run is local: your Google Business Profile and Google Maps, a local visibility program, your Google reviews, posts on six platforms, and AI search. You get a Day 1 snapshot, a progress report every two weeks and a monthly ranking heatmap.

This is the visibility we build for your business, in AI answers, local Google search and Google Maps.

How Google ranks local results on Google Maps

On its help page Tips to improve your local ranking on Google, Google says “Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity.” The same help page explains three factors under the headings Relevance, Distance and Prominence. Here is what each one means and what we do about it.

Google’s Relevance, Distance and Prominence factors, and what we do for each
Google’s factorWhat Google saysWhat we do
RelevanceHow well your Business Profile matches what someone is searching for. Google says to provide complete and detailed business info so it can match you to relevant searches.Your categories, services, description and attributes, audited and then kept optimized.
DistanceHow far your business is from the customer who is searching.Nobody can change how far you are from the person searching. Your monthly report shows where you rank across your area.
ProminenceHow well-known your business is. Google says this is also based on info like how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. Our part is reviews: a review request after every completed job, and replies to your new reviews.

Google’s tips on that page run under five headings: “Verify your business,” “Keep your business information up-to-date,” “Respond to reviews,” “Add photos & videos” and “Add in-store products.” Under “Keep your business information up-to-date,” Google says “Businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results.”

Photos of your work: what Google says

On its help page Tips for business-specific photos on your Business Profile, Google says “Your business will look best on Google if you add category-specific photos.” On its local ranking tips page, Google says photos and videos let you show customers what you offer and tell the story of your business.

  • Photos at work. Google says these help customers quickly understand the type of work you do. It suggests at least three photos that are representative of the services you offer: your team providing different types of service, and the specialty services you deliver.
  • Team photos. Google suggests at least three photos showing your management team and your employees.
  • Quality. Google says a photo should be in focus, well lit, and have no significant alterations or excessive use of filters or AI. In its words, the image should represent reality.
  • Verified first. Google says your business must be verified for your photos and videos to show on your Business Profile.

What we do: we publish posts, offers, updates, photos and videos on your Business Profile on an ongoing schedule, and every update goes out on all 6 platforms.

Your part: now and then, drag job photos and videos into a link we send you.

Google’s rules for your Business Profile

If your crews go to the customer’s property and customers don’t come to your office or yard, Google calls you a service-area business: one that visits customers directly but doesn’t serve customers at its business address. These are Google’s own rules, quoted so you can check your profile against them.

  • No address customers never visit. Google says a service-area business should hide its business address from customers. If you don’t serve customers at your business address, Google says to remove it from your profile and enter your service area.
  • Up to 20 service areas, no radius. Google says you can’t set your service area as a radius around your business. You can set up to 20 service areas by city, postal code or other area. Google says your overall service area shouldn’t extend farther than about 2 hours of driving time from where your business is based, and that for some businesses, larger service areas may be appropriate.
  • One profile per business, or per separate location. Google says there should only be one profile per business. If you have different locations with separate service areas and separate staff at each one, Google allows one profile for each location.
  • No virtual office unless it’s staffed. Google says service-area businesses can’t list a virtual office unless that office is staffed during business hours.
  • Seasonal hours. If your business has seasonal hours, Google says to set your regular hours during the season you’re open. You can say in your business description that you’re open only for a specific seasonal period. In the off-season you can mark your business as temporarily closed, then set your regular hours again when you reopen.
  • Categories that say what you are. Google says to use as few categories as possible to describe your overall core business, as specific as possible but representative of your main business. It says to pick categories that complete the statement “This business IS a” rather than “this business HAS a,” and not to use categories solely as keywords.
  • A description that doesn’t focus on promotions, prices or sales, with no links. Google says the business description shouldn’t focus on special promotions, prices or offer sales, and no links of any type are allowed in it.

Google reviews for landscapers: what Google allows, and what it doesn’t

On its help page Tips to improve your local ranking on Google, Google says “More reviews and positive ratings can help your business’s local ranking.”

Google allows you to ask customers for reviews of a genuine experience, as long as you don’t offer incentives or try to influence the rating or what the review says. Here are some of the lines Google draws.

  • Incentives for a review, or for changing or removing a negative one. Google does not allow incentives such as payment, discounts or free services in exchange for a review, or for changing or removing a negative one.
  • Discouraging negative reviews, or asking only for positive ones. Google does not allow businesses to discourage negative reviews or to selectively ask for positive ones.
  • Pressure on the premises, or asking for specific content. Google says businesses should not pressure customers to leave reviews on the premises, or request that specific content be included.

Google’s own advice, from its help page Tips to get more reviews: ask customers to visit a Google link or scan a QR code to leave a review. When you reply, Google suggests that instead of sending the same “thank you” to everyone, you focus on reviews where you can share a helpful update or answer a question.

What we do: every completed job triggers a text and an email asking for a Google review, with a direct link, and we reply to your new Google reviews. The request goes out after every completed job, not only the ones you pick. Read more on how to get more Google reviews.

Landscaping SEO for AI search: ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and more

No one can force an AI tool to recommend a business, no matter who says they can. We work to get you showing up in AI search results, and we track how you show up in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Grok and Perplexity. We never promise a placement in an AI answer.

In its guide to optimizing for generative AI features, Google says Google Business Profiles “can help your products and services to be visible in both AI responses and other Google Search results.”

For Google’s own AI features, in its guide AI features and your website, Google says “There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode,” and its list of best practices includes checking that your Business Profile information is up to date. Your Business Profile is one of the things we optimize and keep active.

Want to check yourself? Ask those tools the questions your customers ask and note whether your business comes up. Our guide on how contractors show up in ChatGPT walks through it.
